Harbour Master Sailing Challenge 2019 to 2023 (Ireland being written up)

Good Dog

The one and only photo I took from a drone.

Good Dog is a wide lady!  Although not as sleek as some yachts, inside she feels like a 43ft boat not a 34ft boat.

She sails beautifully to within 30′ of the wind.

The pilot house is well protected, has good all round visibilty and a good heater.

The boat is designed to be steered from inside however I never do for two reasons.  First it is very tricky to see lobster pots that are dead ahead and secondly the external cockpit is much more sociable.

Good Dog looks a bit like a gypsy caravan in this photo!

We were transiting the Caledonian Canal where you need to deploy every fender you own to protect your boat from the hire boats using the locks.

Given the Scottish rain and occasional midge, we were very grateful for the pilot house on this inland passage.

Steve, this amazing engineer in Amble (half way up the Northumberland coast) came and gave my bow thruster the best service it has ever had by buffing up all the copper contacts.

Yes I do have a bow thruster and I would not be without it!

This is a Yanmar 4JH3-TE engine powered by 75 horses!  It is very powerful.

She purrs beautifully and has never given me one day’s problem.

At 2,000 revs she uses about 2 litres of fuel an hour propelling Good Dog along at a steady 5 knots.

As you can tell – I love her nearly as much as I love Good Dog.
