Harbour Master Sailing Challenge 2019 to 2023 (Ireland still to be written up)

St Michael’s Mount

April 25, 2019
Thanks to Mike Greig, the HM of St Michael's Mount, we enjoyed a highlight of our trip so far, taking Good Dog into the inner harbour of the Mount on a stunning sunny early morning. Mike was born in view of the Mount, and now lives on it. His enthusiasm for his job is overwhelming.

That is lucky, for he is responsible for safely transporting 250,000 visitors across the water each year in 9 small boats...... some of whom have never been on a boat before!
.
Words cannot describe the beauty of St Michael's Mount. All I can do is implore you to visit her. I say her because she feels like a ship. Dominating the bay named after her. One of 43 "tidal islands" in the UK, the small harbour was first built in Roman times, and it is believed that it is where tin was traded to the Phoenicians by the Cornish over 2000 years ago.

The same family has lived in the castle since the 1600s and still love the place now, demonstrated by the extensive and stunning gardens that cling to the south east side of the mount.

Thank you Mike, Mick, Lottie, Josh, Rob, (and Mary!) who I met on the Mount, for your hospitality and enthusiasm. It was a privilege to visit the Mount!
