Chris Turner is the Assistant HM, ably assisted by his Parson's Terrier called Tally who travels on his launch. (Rather apt as one of my new crew is a parson!).
Chris very kindly came out to meet us on his launch and wish us well on our travels west. I was rather chuffed that he had heard about this Seafarers UK challenge on BBC Radio Cornwall that morning.
Chris, who hails from South Wales, has been AHM for 4 years. He says what makes St Mawes different is the astonishing value of the properties around the harbour. Maybe it is not a coincidence then, that Chris's "unusual moment" as HM was when the press discovered that the fugitive Russian oligarch Sergei Pugachev, nicknamed Putin's Banker, was moored up in St Mawes harbour on his multi million pound yacht! He fled St Mawes being chased by the paparazzi.
My new crew are three Cornishmen, Adam, Philip and Jos and we are now off to visit the big commercial port of Falmouth.
