Just south west of the large commercial port of Avonmouth and the entrance to Bristol itself, there is a very impressive marina secured safely behind a large set of lock gates.
Large tidal range, up to 12 metres, means a huge amount of water entering or leaving the lock as you go through it. Portishead is a vital refuge for yachts in this area. Thank you to the very friendly marina staff.
