Harbour Master Sailing Challenge 2019 to 2023 (Ireland still to be written up)

Port Isaac

Departing calm sunny Padstow, Mark, my new crew member and I knew there were no more safe harbours for 85 nautical miles. We were about to sail past some evocative Cornish names....reminiscent of smuggling, pirates and Poldark!
.
The first of these was Port Isaac. Due to a rapidly dropping tide we could only just poke our bow into the narrow entrance, but we spoke to the very friendly and recently retired HM, Bryon Buse on the phone. He told us the most famous thing about his harbour was film making..... both TV hit Doc Martin and the recent film Fisherman's Friends are set. In his 7 years of being an HM his most unusual pastime has been rescuing cars whose drivers have returned a little late to the "beach" car park! .
Onwards up the coast to more famous Cornish smuggling destinations......
